Michel Calvocoressi , actually Michel Dimitri Calvocoressi , (born October 2, 1877 in Marseille , † February 1, 1944 in London ) was a British music critic of Greek origin.

Life

Around 1895 Calvocoressi came to Paris to study music. After successfully completing his studies, he began writing as a music critic for various Parisian newspapers and magazines. As an enthusiastic friend of both classical and modern Russian music, he began to learn the Russian language in order to gain access to the lyrics. Later he occasionally reviewed publications of Russian musical literature.

Around 1915 Calvocoressi went to Great Britain and settled in London. In addition to his journalistic work, an almost literary work emerged over time. Among other things, he also translates Russian and German songs and opera libretti into English.

Calvocoressi was a member of the French artists' association Les Apaches .

Calvocoressi was a distant relative of Ion and Peter Calvocoressi .
