Michel Emer

Michel Emer (born June 18, 1906 in St. Petersburg as Michel Rosenstein ; † November 28, 1984 in Neuilly-sur-Seine ) was a French composer , songwriter , arranger and pianist in the field of chanson and swing .

Emer wrote chansons a. a. for Maurice Chevalier , Ray Ventura , Tino Rossi , Eartha Kitt and Yves Montand . From 1940 until her death he wrote numerous chansons for Édith Piaf . The best known of these are L'Accordéoniste and the duet À quoi ça sert l'amour , which Piaf performed together with her husband Théo Sarapo . He also worked with André Ekyan , Jean Sablon , Jean Tranchant , Yvonne Louis and the L'Orchestre du Theater Daunou (1933, including Django Reinhardt ), as a musician with Éliane de Creus and as an arranger with Grégor et ses Grégoriens (1930) .

Michel Emer was married to the French actress Jacqueline Maillan .
