Michel Nguyên Khác Ngu

Michel Nguyên Khác Ngu (born February 2, 1909 in Van Dôn , Vietnam , † June 10, 2009 ) was the Roman Catholic bishop of Long Xuyên . His name combines western naming tradition ( Michel as first name before the family name Nguyên ) with Vietnamese ( Khác Ngu as a personal name is behind the family name).

Life

Nguyên Khác Ngu studied in Lạng Sơn and Paris . After his ordination on June 29, 1934, he worked in the seminary in Lạng Sơn, the pastoral care and for the secretariat of the Apostolic Delegation in Huế .

On November 24, 1960 he was by Pope John XXIII. appointed first bishop of the Long Xuyên diocese . He was ordained bishop on January 22, 1961 by the Archbishop of Huê , Pierre Martin Ngô Đình Thục . Co-consecrators were the retired Vicar Apostolic of Saigon , Jean Cassaigne MEP , and the retired Apostolic Vicar of Phát Diệm , Thaddée Le Huu Tu OCist .

He participated in all four sessions of the Second Vatican Council as a council father.

His resignation was granted on December 30, 1997 by Pope John Paul II .
