Michel Pébereau

Michel Pébereau (born January 23, 1942 in Paris ) is a French banker and chairman of the bank BNP Paribas .

Life

As a graduate of the École polytechnique and École nationale d'administration , Pébereau first became a financial inspector in the civil service after completing his studies. In 1986 he headed the privatization of the Bank Crédit Commercial de France , which he headed from 1986 to 1993, then the privatization of the Banque Nationale de Paris , which he headed from 1993 to 2000. After an unsuccessful attempt to take over Société générale , the Banque nationale de Paris succeeded in taking over Paribas, which led to the creation of BNP Paribas in 2000. Pébereau became Chairman of the Board of Directors of the new company and held this post until 2003, when the functions of Executive Board and Chairman were separated. Since then, Pébereau has exercised the latter function. He also taught at the Institut d'études politiques de Paris from 1968 to 2000 , most recently as a professor.
