Michel Turler (also Michel Türler , born May 14, 1944 , † April 8, 2010 in La Chaux-de-Fonds , Neuchâtel ) was a Swiss ice hockey player .
Turler was one of the most famous ice hockey players in Switzerland. After first trying his hand at football , he decided to play the sport after an ice hockey tournament for schoolchildren. In his entire active career, he won the Swiss championship seven times , with the HC La Chaux-de-Fonds team six times in a row between 1968 and 1973 and in 1978 with the EHC Biel . As a center , he was also the top scorer in this national league four times .
In 1971, at the last Group B World Championships before the Winter Olympics in Sapporo , Turler was the outstanding player in the decisive game against the GDR . He scored two goals, which were crucial for Switzerland's promotion to the A group. He was the most successful striker at this World Cup and was elected to the All-Star-Team of the same.
Over the course of his career, Turler made 110 international appearances and scored 54 goals. At the 1972 Winter Olympics, he was the best Swiss player with four goals.
In 2007, his jersey number was blocked by HC La Chaux-de-Fonds and a symbolic jersey with his number was hung under the roof of the Patinoire des Mélèzes . Shortly before his 66th birthday, Turler died of cancer on April 8, 2010. In recognition of his achievements, the HC La Chaux-de-Fonds jerseys for the 2010/11 season were all signed by Turler.
