Michelle L. Thaller (born November 28, 1969 in Waukesha , Wisconsin ) is an American astrophysicist .

Life

Michelle Thaller graduated from Waukesha South High School in 1988 . She completed her subsequent studies in astrophysics in 1992 with a bachelor thesis on the precession measurements of binary stars at Harvard University . At Georgia State University , she then worked on collision winds at nearby binary stars, and finally did her Ph.D. in 1998. From 1999 to 2008 she worked at the Infrared Processing and Analysis Center and then as Manager of the Education and Public Outreach program for the Spitzer Space Telescope at the California Institute of Technology . She is currently assistant director for science communication at the Goddard Space Flight Center .

Thaller can be seen at irregular intervals as a guest on various science programs. She appeared in Naked Science , a show on the National Geographic Channel . She was several times on Secrets of the Universe and The Universe - A Journey through Space and Time , both broadcasts on the American television channel History . She is also a regular contributor to The Christian Science Monitor .

Thaller is married to an engineer and lives in Maryland .
