The Astafjord is a 40 km long strait in the Norwegian Fylke (province) Troms og Finnmark . It separates the islands of Andørja and Rolla from mainland Norway and is administratively located in the five municipalities of Ibestad in the north and Tjeldsund , Gratangen , Lavangen and Salangen on the mainland in the south.

The Astafjord is a sound and runs from the southern end of the Vågsfjord in the west south past the two islands Rolla and Andørja to the northeast to the Salangen , which extends far into the municipality of Salangen with its 8 km long Sagfjord .

On the way, four fjords or Sunde branch off from the Astafjord: on the north side of the Sound Bygda between the islands of Rolla and Andørja; on the south side the Grovfjord (in Tjeldsund), Gratangen (in Gratangen) and Lavangen (in Lavangen and Salangen) leading to the south or southeast . At its northeastern end, where the Mjøsund branches off to the north, the Astafjord merges into the Salangen leading to the northeast.
