The Michelsbach is an orographically right tributary of the Hörsel in the area of the independent city of Eisenach in Thuringia .
course
The Michelsbach rises southwest of Hötzelsroda not far from the middle courtyard and flows in a westerly direction to the southern outskirts of Stregda . Here it bends south and crosses under highway 1021. Before the passage under the former federal highway 4 (now section of federal highway 19 ), it passes a flood retention basin that was completed in 2005. In the northern urban area of Eisenach, the Michelsbach runs strongly straightened and partially piped in a southerly direction to the confluence with the Hörsel.
Stregda flood retention basin
The retention basin south of Stregda was built in two construction phases in 2004 and 2005. The dam is a maximum of 4.70 meters high and has a length of 200 meters at its crown. The maximum water level is three meters. This means that 35 million liters of water can be dammed in the basin over an area of 2.83 hectares. With support from the Free State of Thuringia, around 380,000 euros were invested.
