Micro Europe

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Micro-Europa is a cooperative European radio network of students and prospective journalists with a focus on local European journalism.

The aim of the cooperation is to find new radio-journalistic opportunities to provide information about European affairs locally and to promote European awareness in the media. In cooperation with university lecturers, students from participating universities, journalism and technical colleges create radio reports or entire radio programs. The contributions are based on a common topic that changes monthly and has a European focus or approaches. These topics are determined in advance at annual meetings of representatives from the participating editorial teams. The network currently consists of ten participating university radio stations in seven European countries (as of March 2011).

history

At a meeting of around 50 journalists, journalism teachers and members of various organizations in Nantes (France) in November 2007 , the foundation stone for the journalistic education project was laid. Those involved, who accepted the invitation of the initiator Laurence Aubron, on the one hand noticed a need for action under the impression of a low turnout in the European elections, but on the other hand also realized that Europe was not exactly an attractive information topic. The conceptual elaboration of the project was therefore limited to the medium of radio, as it accompanies people in their everyday life and can also be used in the training of students.

In October 2008 the network was founded under its current name. The seven founding participants included employees and students from the following universities:

production

The production concept is designed for a strong intercultural exchange as well as a horizontal transfer of information . Every month or every two months, the students who participate in the radio network create a maximum three-minute contribution on a common topic. The transcript of the contribution in the respective national language and in English translation will be placed together with the contribution in a contribution pool that is accessible online for all radio network partners. The partners of the radio network translate these transcripts into their own language and produce the contributions in their own national language. All contributions made by the participating students for the radio network are also available online.

Uniwelle Tübingen

In the university radio of the University of Tübingen , Uniwelle Tübingen, which was founded in 1988, media studies students first created a one-hour program with self-produced and translated radio reports from the network and music Open to all students at the University of Tübingen. For decades, under the direction of Sigi Lehmann, the students broadcast waves on the VHF frequency of the desert at different times . In mid-2014, the license was not renewed by the management of Eberhard Karls-Universität , so that the last live broadcast was broadcast in mid-July 2015. However, the students from the former Uniwelle Tübingen sat down and developed a concept that continued on a cross-media basis: cantaloup.fm .
