Middelharnis ( ) ( Zeeland Menheerse ) is a place in the municipality of Goeree-Overflakkee in the Dutch province of South Holland . Until December 31, 2012, Middelharnis was the capital of the municipality of the same name , which was created in 1966 from the merger of the municipalities of Middelharnis, Nieuwe Tonge, Sommelsdijk and Stad aan 't Haringvliet. In January 2017 the place had 7,185 inhabitants.

Middelharnis, centrally located on the island of Goeree-Overflakkee , is the seat of the municipality of Goeree-Overflakkee. To the west of the town is the town of Sommelsdijk , to the east of the neighboring town of Stad aan 't Haringvliet . Middelharnis is connected to the Haringvliet via a canal ( Binnenhaven ) .
