Middelharnis ( ) ( Zeeland Menheerse ) is a former municipality in the Dutch province of South Holland on the island of Goeree-Overflakkee with 18,070 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2012) and an area of 86.77 km² (of which 26.06 km² of water). Middelharnis is also the name of the main town in this former municipality; other places that belonged to the municipality of Middelharnis are Battenoord , Nieuwe Tonge , Sommelsdijk and Stad aan 't Haringvliet . It has been part of the Goeree-Overflakkee community since January 1, 2013 .
The municipality of Middelharnis was created in 1966 through the merger of the municipalities of Middelharnis, Nieuwe Tonge, Sommelsdijk and Stad aan 't Haringvliet.
