occupation

Midnight Killer is an Italian thriller from director Lamberto Bava from the year 1986 . The film, originally entitled Morirai a mezzanotte , is a representative of the Giallo .

The main roles are played by Valeria D'Obici as the criminal psychologist Anna Berardi, Paolo Malco as Commissioner Terzi, Leonardo Treviglio as Nicola Levi and Lara Wendel as Carol Terzi.

action

The policeman Nicola is suspected of killing his wife. The professor of criminal psychology Anna Berardi doubts his guilt. For her, the murder has a connection to the late serial killer Franco Tribbo, whom she investigated ten years ago. But the lead investigator Commissioner Terzi rejects this thesis. As a result, there are more murders. The suspect Nicola is shot dead by the police when he is caught while he is wrestling with Anna over a knife. When three of Anna's students drive to the sea and find accommodation in an empty hotel, they are attacked by an attacker who looks like Tribbo. He kills two students, and before he can kill the third, he is shot by Superintendent Terzi. It turns out that the murderer was Anna, who wore a mask with the likeness of Tribbo and took on his personality.

production

Midnight Killer is a production by Reteitalia and Dania Film . It was shot in Ascoli Piceno , among others .

The film was produced for television but was also shown in cinemas.

reception

In his book Italian Horror Film Directors , Louis Paul found that the rather bloodless and virtually nudity-free film derives its exploitation value primarily from the innovative way in which Bava choreographed the killer's attacks. Even if Morirai a mezzanotte is considered a failure, it contains many interesting ideas and is not a bad thriller.
