Mieczysław Kuźma

Mieczysław Kuźma (* 1907 , † April 25, 1983 ) was a Polish architect who was particularly involved in the reconstruction of Warsaw after the Second World War .

Life

For the semester 1936/1937, the architect Kuźma is named as an unpaid lecturer at the Faculty of Architecture and Art History of the Technical University of Warsaw . After the war he was a long-time employee of the Biuro Odbudowy Stolicy , which coordinated the reconstruction of the destroyed Warsaw. For the office he worked as the head and general planner of the reconstruction of the old town and partly of the new town . In this function he did a great job. Kuźma was the specialist in the restoration and reconstruction of historical complexes also outside the old town (such as several large palaces). He used paintings by Bernardo Bellotto , drawings by Zygmunt Vogel and sketches by Tylman van Gameren as templates for the reconstruction plans . He was also involved in the reconstruction of Lublin . From 1966 to 1974 he held the post of curator of the city of Warsaw.

In 1990 he - long retired - successfully turned against the relocation of the symbol of the Warsaw Uprising - the wingless Nike , armed with a sword - to the Old Town market square.

• Ostrogski Palace (1949–1954)
• Building of the archive for old files (Polish: Archiwum Akt Dawnych) at Ulica Jezuicka 1-3 (1950–1954)
• Mniszech Palace (1960)
• Potocki Palace in Jabłonna
