Miguel Pérez Cuesta (born March 21, 1986 in Oviedo ), usually briefly referred to as Michu , is a former Spanish soccer player who last played at Real Oviedo in the Segunda División . He played in midfield and was used there primarily centrally.

Career

Michu grew up in Oviedo and played at the local soccer club Real since 2003, initially in the youth department. He was later also included in the first team squad, but moved to Celta Vigo in 2007 . Here he was initially only used in the B team, but towards the end of the season he also played in the first squad and became an integral part of the team over the next few years. In the 2010/11 season he took Vigo to the play-offs for promotion to the Primera División in part, but failed in the penalty shootout at FC Granada . However, he personally managed to get promoted as he moved to Rayo Vallecano on a free transfer . There he became a regular player straight away and with 16 goals in 37 league games - more than in four years at Vigo - one of the surprises of the season. In mid-July 2012, he moved to the Welsh Premier League club Swansea City for a fee of around 2.5 million euros .

For the 2014/15 season Michu moved on loan to the Italian Serie A at SSC Napoli . After returning from Italy, Michu was no longer used for Swansea; his contract was terminated on November 9, 2015 by mutual agreement.

A few days after his contract termination in Wales, Michu moved to the Spanish fourth division club UP Langreo , who is coached by his brother. He signed a contract until the end of June 2016.

On July 25, 2017, Michu ended his career as a professional footballer at the age of 31. The reason was a protracted injury to the right ankle.
