Mihai Ionescu (born November 19, 1936 in Ploieşti , † January 19, 2011 in Bucharest .) Was a Romanian football player and official.

Career

Ionescu was in 1960 at Petrolul Ploiesti as goalkeeper between the posts until his retirement in late 1973, he played 256 games in the Divizia A . After he won his first national title with the club in the national cup in 1963 , he won the Romanian championship title with the team in the season 1965/66 . His achievements led him to the Romanian national team in 1965 , in which he guarded the goal in 13 international matches until 1967 .

Ionescu later became a functionary in the Federația Română de Fotbal and the regional association in the Prahova district .

In early 2011, Ionescu died at the age of 74 shortly after an operation in the Spitalul Clinic de Urgenţă in Bucharest.
