The climbing Mikanie ( Mikania scandens ) is a plant from the genus of Mikania .

features

The climbing micania is a perennial, herbaceous, twisting climbing plant that reaches heights of 2 to 5 meters. Possibly it forms runners above ground. The leaves are opposite, heart-shaped, stalked and distantly curved-serrated to entire. The inflorescences are umbrella-like in the leaf axils. The flower heads are small and four-flowered. The bracts are 4 to 5.5 millimeters in size. The flowers are white or pink.

The flowering period extends from (July) August to October.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 34 + 0-1B or 38.

Occurrence

The climbing micania occurs in subtropical to temperate East America from Mexico and the Bahamas to Texas and Illinois to New York. The species grows in damp shrubbery on the coastal plain as well as in springs, streams and lakes.

use

The climbing micania is rarely used as an ornamental plant for trellises. It has been in culture since 1825 at the latest.
