Mike "Mad Genius" Caro (born May 16, 1944 in Joplin , Missouri ) is a professional American poker player , pioneer of poker theory and author of various poker books.

In 1978 he contributed 50 statistical tables to Doyle Brunson's Super / System and wrote the chapter on Draw Poker . A sought-after casino consultant, he helped develop Poker Probe , the first commercial PC program for analyzing poker situations. He is the founder of the Mike Caro University of Poker, Gambling and Life Strategy, the world's first full-time poker school. In the 1990s, he was one of the few people who believed that real money online poker would not only succeed but surpass “live” casino gaming.

He has also produced several videos, some of which are based on his books. He is the former Editor-in-Chief of Poker Player Magazine and Senior Editor of Gambling Times Magazine.

In 1984, at the World Series of Poker, he presented Orac (Caro backwards), a poker-playing computer program that he had developed. Orac was the world's first serious attempt at programming an Artificial Intelligence poker player, and most poker professionals were surprised at how well the program played.

Casino manager and poker player

Caro became the chief strategist of the Bicycle Club Casino when it opened in 1984. In 1986 he became managing director of Huntington Park Casino . In 1992 he helped organize the World Poker Finals, the first company-sponsored poker tournament, at Foxwoods Resort Casino .

Furthermore, he works tirelessly for the use of four-color card games in casinos and tournaments. Caro developed a large part of his poker theories in conversations with John Fox and Art Sathmary .
