Mike Lipskin

Mike Lipskin (* 1942 in New York City ) is an American jazz and stride pianist and singer who also worked as a music producer .

Live and act

Mike Lipskin came into contact with Fats Waller's music through his father's records when he was only four years old. As a teenager he went to Harlem , where he could hear Stride Piano veterans such as Willie The Lion Smith , Luckey Roberts , Cliff Jackson and Donald Lambert . In 1970 he recorded his debut album California Here I Come for Flying Dutchman Records.

He also worked for 13 years as a music producer for RCA Records in New York; During this time he produced albums for the Gil Evans Orchestra ( ... Plays the Music of Jimi Hendrix ), Blue Mitchell , Cedar Walton , Lonnie Liston Smith , Roger Troy and Ryo Kawasaki . He was also musical director and musician in the Stride Summit concert series at San Francisco's Davies Symphony Hall and the Masonic Auditorium , most recently in August 2013. He also performed with Woody Allen and Dick Hyman in New York City and toured European countries when he did presented his album released on Downtown Records. Lipskin appeared in the documentary A Great Day in Harlem and participated in the book project The Great Jazz Day and a TV documentary about Willie The Lion Smith. In the field of jazz he was involved in 12 recording sessions between 1970 and 2008, most recently with Dick Hyman ( Thinking About Bix ).
