Mike Smith (born November 14, 1965 ) is an American basketball coach .

career

Smith graduated from Central Washington University. From 2005 he worked as an assistant coach at the German second division club BV TU Chemnitz 99 and was promoted to head coach before the 2006/07 season. In early March 2007, Smith was released from the Saxons. For the 2007/08 season he moved to the basketball league at TBB Trier , where he replaced Frank Baum as assistant coach. Since Trier signed two new coaches with Yves Defraigne and Frank de Meulemeester during the season, Smith's contract was not extended after the season. He stayed in Trier and coached the U19 team in the junior basketball league as well as the upper division men of TVG Baskets Trier. In December 2009 Smith moved as head coach to the regional league team BiG Gotha and remained in office until the end of the 2009/10 season after he had reached third place in the 1st Regionalliga Süd-Ost with the team.

From 2010 to 2013 he was the head coach of the Luxembourg first division club Black Star Mersch and also worked for the club in the youth sector. In 2013/14 he coached another first division club in Luxembourg with AS Zolwer until December 2013, as well as in 2014/15 when he was the coach of Amis Du Basketball (AB) Contern. In 2015 he switched to the position of coach at BBC Arantia Fels (also first division in Luxembourg) and worked for the club for two years until 2017.

In 2016 and 2017 he was assistant coach of the Luxembourg national team, in 2018 he was an assistant coach on the staff of the Luxembourg U20 team at the B-European Championship in Bulgaria .

In the summer of 2018, Smith was introduced as the new head coach of the Icelandic second division club UMF Sindri.

Mike Smith is married with one daughter.
