Mila ( Arabic ميلة, tamazight ⵎⵉⵍⴰ Mila ) is a city in northeast Algeria and the capital of the Mila province . In 2008 it had almost 70,000 inhabitants. It is located 33 kilometers (as the crow flies) northwest of Constantine .
In ancient times the city was called Milevum and was part of the Roman province of Numidia .
About ten kilometers north of the city, the Rhumel or Oued El Kebir river is dammed up in the Beni Haroun dam, making it Algeria's largest reservoir.
