Andreas Streit (born July 15, 1840 in Habendorf near Liberec ; † January 20, 1916 in Reichenau an der Rax , Lower Austria ) was an Austrian architect.

Streit, the son of a textile manufacturer, attended the Oberrealschule Reichenberg until 1857, then from 1857 to 1859 the Polytechnic in Prague and from 1859 to 1861 the Polytechnic in Vienna. In 1861 he studied at the building school of the Royal Academy in Munich, from 1862 to 1865 at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna (with Van der Nüll and Siccardsburg ). From 1868 to 1871 he was an assistant at the Vienna University of Technology , from 1871 he worked as a freelance architect in Vienna.

Streit was a representative of late historicism , influential and represented on many juries. From 1878 to 1879 he was a co-designer of the so-called " Makart pageant " on the occasion of the silver wedding of the imperial couple and after the death of his friend Hans Makart in 1884 took over the guardianship of his children.

Streit also emerged as a journalist, published works on theaters and cloud formations (the so-called "Streit'schen clouds" are named after him). He was also one of the editors of the many-volume Kronprinzenwerk (“The Monarchy in Words and Images”).

Streits buildings were mostly in the neo-renaissance or neo-baroque style, richly decorated and equipped with representative staircases (example: the “ Palais Equitable ” in Vienna 1, Stock-im-Eisen-Platz 3).
