Milan Grman

Milan Grman (born August 25, 1969 in Topoľčany ) is a former Czechoslovak table tennis player . He won bronze in team competitions at both the 1986 European Championships and the 1991 World Championships , and five times he won titles at European Youth Championships.

Career

Milan Grman learned to play table tennis at the age of six from his father, who played in the Slovak national league. He started playing table tennis at the STO Spartak ZŤS Topoľčany club. He was promoted by the coaches Ľuboš Goga and Ludvík Vyhnanovský . At the age of 13, Grman was delegated to the Sparta Prague performance center and trained by Václav Ostravický. After a second performance center for Czechoslovak table tennis was set up in Bratislava three years later , Grman continued his training at Lokomotíva Bratislava.

Grman achieved his greatest success in the youth field. He won five gold and five silver medals at the European Youth Championships:

  • 1983 - Cadets: Gold in singles and doubles with Josef Braun
  • 1984 - Cadets: silver in singles, gold in doubles with Vladimír Mihočko jun. and gold with the team
  • 1984 - Juniors: silver in mixed with Renata Kasalová
  • 1985 - Juniors: silver in doubles with Josef Braun and mixed with Renata Kasalová
  • 1986 - Juniors: silver in doubles with Josef Braun and gold in mixed with Renata Kasalová

From 1985 to 2000, Milan Grman was nominated nine times for world championships . He reached the semi-finals with the team in 1991 . Several times he took part in European championships . Here, too, his greatest success was the bronze medal in the team competition in 1986 .

In doubles he was twice Czechoslovak champion; 1985 with Jindřich Panský and 1991 with Tomáš Jančí. In 1992 Grman became the last Czechoslovakian individual champion.

1986 Grman won the Slovak championship in Hlohovec in singles and together with Vladimír Mihočko jun. also in doubles. Further Slovak championship titles in doubles followed in 1987 (with Roland Vími), 1988 (with Anton Kutiš) and 1994–1996 (each with Tomáš Jančí)

From 1986 to 1990 Milan Grman was active for the Lokomotíva Bratislava association and was there by Viliam Polakovič and Vladimír Mihočko sen. trained.

Activities in Germany and Austria

In the 1990s, Milan Grman played for several German clubs. In 1991 he moved from Dukla Trencin to ATSV Saarbrücken , a year later to TSV Elektronik Gornsdorf. From 1993 to 1996 he played with SKST Sporitelna Bratislava in the European Super League . In 1996 he joined the club SV Dresden-Mitte.

Since the end of the 1990s he was active in the Austrian Bundesliga, first with TTC Moldan Kuchl, from 2002 with Waldegg Linz. In 2010 Grman returned to Slovakia and played for two seasons in the A-team of third division Polstrav Bystričany .
