Milan Zver (born May 25, 1962 in Ljubljana ) is a Slovenian politician of the SDS .

Zver completed his university diploma, his master’s degree and his doctorate in the field of social sciences. He started in 1987 as a university assistant and research associate. In 1992 he became an advisor to the Slovenian government, and in 1994 he took on this role in the city administration of Ljubljana. In 1998 he started as a lecturer at the University of Maribor . He is a member of the World Anti-Doping Agency .

At SDS, Zver was a board member, deputy chairman and party council chairman. He was a member of the Ljubljana Municipal Council from 1998 to 2002 and the Slovenian State Council from 1998 to 2003. In 2004 he was elected to the State Assembly. From 2004 to 2008 he was Minister for Education and Sport. In the first half of 2008 he chaired the EU Council of Ministers for Education, Youth and Culture. In 2009 he was elected to the European Parliament . In 2012 he took up the post of President of Slovenia .

Zver belongs to the Group of the European People's Party , the Christian Democrats. He is a member of the Committee on Culture and Education and a delegation to the EU-Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia Joint Parliamentary Committee. He is a deputy in the Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development and in the delegation for relations with the People's Republic of China.
