The Miles M.20 was a British fighter aircraft manufactured by Miles Aircraft during World War II . The hunter was designed to be easy to manufacture. That meant z. B. fixed landing gear , no hydraulic components and the use of standard components from other Miles aircraft, as well as the extensive use of wood. The flight performance should still be competitive. The M.20 was designed, built and flown in 67 days. The first flight took place on September 14, 1940.
The Miles M.20 was approx. 800-1000 kg heavier than the Bf 109 and the Supermarine Spitfire and, despite the use of an aircraft engine with a two-speed loader, was slower than these two types of aircraft, which only had an entrance loader. The flight performance of the M.20 fell well short of expectations and the Miles M.20 did not go into series production.
