The Miles M.8 Peregrine was a light transport aircraft produced by the British manufacturer Miles Aircraft .

development and construction

The M.8 Peregrine (English: peregrine falcon ) was Miles Aircraft's first twin-engine aircraft. It was a low- wing aircraft with retractable landing gear powered by two six-cylinder in-line engines of the type de Havilland Gipsy Six II. There was space for two crew members and six passengers in the aircraft. The prototype was built in the Woodley factory and made its maiden flight on September 12, 1936. It was registered for the Schlesinger Race between England and Johannesburg , but could not be completed in time. At the end of 1937 it was dismantled. The machine showed good flight performance, but did not go into series production due to the capacity utilization of the factory with the production of the Miles Magister . However, there was a second copy with two engines of the type Menasco Buccaneer B6S for the Royal Aircraft Establishment built.

use

The machine with the serial number L6346 was delivered to the Royal Aircraft Establishment for experiments relating to laminar flows and for use as a flying laboratory .
