The Miles M.30 X-Minor was an experimental aircraft from the British manufacturer Miles Aircraft .

development and construction

In 1938 Miles Aircraft began developing the M.26 as the first in a series of experimental aircraft - the so-called X-series. The series covered a wide range of designs from small feeder aircraft to eight-engine cargo aircraft for transatlantic traffic .

In order to research the design philosophy of the blended wing body , Miles was commissioned to develop a scaled-down, airworthy model of the X.9 design . In the course of this order, the M.30 X-Minor was created. Due to its small size, it was not possible to fully implement the submerged engine concept. The engines were too big and had to be installed under the wings . This led to a change in aerodynamics compared to the blended wing body concept. The X Minor made its maiden flight in February 1942 and provided Miles with valuable data for several years. A larger prototype was planned, but never realized.
