The Miles M.64 LR5 was a two-seat small aircraft produced by the British manufacturer Miles Aircraft .
construction and development
A small group of enthusiasts with Miles Aircraft received from George Miles permission for the design and construction of a small aircraft , possibly after the end of World War II in series could be built. Miles also agreed to provide all necessary materials. The LR5 was created in 1945 as the fifth design by Miles' Liverpool Road (LR) factory in Reading . The four previous prototypes developed here were the M.28 , the M.35 Libellula , M.39B Libellula and the Miles Aerovan .
The LR5 was a single - engine low - wing aircraft made of wood with a rigid nose wheel landing gear , which was powered by an air-cooled four-cylinder in- line Blackburn Cirrus Minor engine with a rated output of 100 hp (74 kW ). The spacious cockpit with seats arranged side by side was covered by a large plexiglass pulpit and had doors on both sides. The landing gear had sprung legs and a steerable nose wheel. However, due to disappointing flight tests and the higher priority production of established models , further development of the LR5 was abandoned.
use
George Miles completed the maiden flight of the prototype with the temporary registration number U-0253 on June 3, 1945. Although the results of the test flight were disappointing at low speeds and during take-off and landing , the machine was pleasant to fly and offered excellent visibility.
