Military Cross of Honor and Merit

The Military Cross of Honor and Merit was donated on May 24, 1951 at the suggestion of Prince Jean by Grand Duchess Charlotte of Luxembourg and is intended to reward extraordinarily brave and outstanding military deeds in the service of the fatherland in times of war and peace. In addition to individuals, groups or units as well as foreigners can also be awarded.

The Military Cross of Honor and Merit is awarded in three stages depending on the rank of the person to be awarded:

Appearance and wearing style

The decoration is a paw cross made of bronze and silver-plated or gold-plated in the corresponding stages. In the medallion the coat of arms of the Grand Duchy with the inscription PATRIA: HONOR: VIRTUS (Fatherland: Honor: Bravery). On each of the four cross arms under the medallion a stylistically intertwined handle of a sword. On the reverse of the medallion the crossed initial C (Charlotte) surmounted by a crown .

The award is carried on a light blue ribbon with three white stripes, through each of which a red central stripe runs, on the left side of the chest.

Others

In addition, the Military Cross of Honor and Merit can be awarded in three stages on the ribbon with a palm of honor. In bronze for honorable mention in the order of the day of the battalion , in silver for mention in the order of the day of the armed forces and in gold for mention in the order of the day of the defense minister .

Since the Grand Duchy does not have a wounded medal, the ribbon with a small silver five-pointed star as a wounded badge can be awarded in such a case.
