The military band at Piața 700 ( Romanian Capela militara ortodoxa din Piața 700 ) is a Romanian Orthodox military band at Piața 700 in the 1st district of Cetate in the western Romanian city of Timișoara ( German  Timişoara ).

history

The chapel was built in the 18th century. A church consecration took place on April 21, 1935, at which a plaque was also placed inside the chapel in addition to the plaque that already existed at the time.

The chapel was repurposed under the communist regime in 1948, first as a stable, then as a grocery store and finally as a grocery store. In 1999 it was re-established as a chapel in accordance with its original purpose. The church is to be included in the 2010 plans for modernization work on Piața 700 .

Trivia

The band hit the headlines after the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 . The artist couple Ion and Ana Badila were busy with fresco painting in the church at this time and, under the influence of the events in New York, they portrayed a scene entitled Coborirea din Rai , in which Osama bin Laden as Satan with a fork on an airplane seated, flew towards the World Trade Center .

In painting in Romanian Orthodox churches it is not uncommon to put a face on evil . It is not uncommon to find Turkish military leaders depicted as Satan in the frescoes of the Moldavian monasteries . In Timișoara there is a church painting on which the former President Ion Iliescu is depicted as Satan.
