Milton Banana
Milton Banana (actually Antônio de Souza , born April 23, 1935 in Rio de Janeiro ; † May 22, 1999 ibid) was a Brazilian percussionist and one of the leading drummers of bossa nova .
life and work
Banana started his career in Rio de Janeiro in the 1950s. He accompanied several musicians and in 1959 he played on the first recording of Chega de Saudade by Antônio Carlos Jobim and Vinicius de Moraes , which is considered one of the first Bossa Novas. This was followed by recordings with João Gilberto and Stan Getz for the album Getz / Gilberto in 1963 and with Baden Powell ( Tristeza on Guitar ) for MPS in 1966. He founded and directed the Milton Banana Trio , which released over 20 albums.
