Milton Himmelfarb (born October 21, 1918 in Brooklyn , New York City ; died January 4, 2006 in New York City ) was an American sociographer of Judaism and publicist.

Life

Himmelfarb worked four decades for the American Jewish Committee , of which he was director of research and information. He published various versions of the American Jewish Yearbook and edited the Commentary journal.

In 1986, US President Ronald Reagan met Himmelfarb at the US Holocaust Memorial Council.

Himmelfarb received visiting professorships at the Jewish Theological Seminary and the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College ; he was also a visiting lecturer at Yale College . In 1938 he received his BA and in 1939 his MS from City College New York.

His sister was the history professor Gertrude Himmelfarb .

Himmelfarb died in New York City, leaving behind his wife Judy and seven children.
