Milton O. Thompson 1960

Milton Orville Thompson (born May 4, 1926 in Crookston , Minnesota , USA , † August 6, 1993 in Lancaster , California , USA) was a Lieutenant Commander of the United States Navy and NASA astronaut who did not complete a space flight.

Thompson received his Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from the University of Washington in 1953 . He was selected as a Dyna Soar astronaut. With the end of the project in 1963 he became a test pilot of the X-15 program, for which he completed 14 flights. Thompson later moved to NASA , where he was Director of Research Projects at Dryden Flight Research Center at Edwards Air Force Base , California . He remained chief developer there until his death.
