Mimi Aarden ( 3. May 1924 in Steenbergen , Netherlands - 3. May 2013 in Breda , the Netherlands) was a Dutch opera singer ( mezzo-soprano ).

Life

Mimi Aardens father was the owner of the Hotel Aarden in Steenbergen, Jan Aarden. Mimi Aarden studied at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam with Ruth Horna and Daniella Lohoff. She also took lessons from Jo Immink (1896–1995). In 1949 she made her debut at the Nationale Opera Amsterdam as Carmen . In 1953 she sang Carmen at the Utrecht Opera. In the same year she sang the third lady in the Magic Flute . After initial success, she went on other successful guest appearances abroad. From 1955 to 1956 she was at the Städtische Oper Berlin , 1958 to 1959 at the Cologne Opera and from 1960 to 1964 at the Hamburg State Opera . On May 22, 1960 she sang in the world premiere ofPrince of Homburg by Hans-Werner Henze the Electress. She also made a guest appearance in Vienna.

Mimi Aarden was a frequent guest in Belgium, for example at the Antwerp Opera and the Ghent Opera , in 1962 and 1963 as Azucena in Il trovatore at the Opéra de Wallonie in Liège and in 1966 at the La Monnaie / De Munt opera house in Brussels . She successfully continued her career in the Netherlands. There she sang in the world premiere of the opera Sampiero Corso by Henri Tomasi in 1956 .

Aarden also performed at the Holland Festival . Here she sang in 1957 Baba the Turk in The Rake's Progress and 1965 De Droom [The dream] of de Leeuw tone . She was also successful as a concert singer.

Other roles included a. Eboli in Don Carlos , Amneris in Aida - 1958 at the Covent Garden Opera in London - Ulrica in Un ballo in maschera , Marcellina in Le nozze di Figaro , Jocasta in Oedipus Rex , Emilia in Otello , Annina in Rosenkavalier , Lucretia in The Rape of Lucretia and Kabanicha in Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk .

Her last appearance was in 1970 as Carmen in Tilburg .
