Minas Morgul is a German pagan metal band founded in 1997 . The name refers to a city in the world of JRR Tolkien's novel series The Lord of the Rings . As a logo, the group used a double Mannaz - Rune .

history

The band existed without a name for a year until they decided on Minas Morgul shortly before their first live appearance in the Frankfurt pub Rockit . This concert was recorded and released a little later as a demo CD entitled First Battle (1998). This sound carrier was only distributed to friends and only exists in very small numbers.

After a few appearances, the next demo album The Dark Age of Revelation was recorded in 1998. It was produced by the band itself. After keyboardist Matze left the band, Anne took his place. In 2000 the first professional album was created, The Dark Realm of the Pagan Lord . After a few more concerts, the record company Aural Attack Productions became aware of the band and signed them in February 2002. The album Schwertzeit was created in cooperation with Aural Attack Productions and was released in November 2002.

In 2004 Minas Morgul wanted to release another album via Aural Attack Productions, but switched to Black Attakk in October 2004 due to other ideas of the record company . In January 2005 the group recorded the album Todesschwadron Ost in the Spiderhouse recording studio . After the album was released, the contract with Black Attakk was canceled again. In March 2007 the band played at the Ragnarök Festival and a month later they recorded the next album. After the recording, singer Nidhogg vom Walde left the band for personal reasons. At the end of June 2007, Nazgul came as a guest singer for a month until he was replaced by Rico in July 2007. In the same year the band signed a contract with the record company Heiden Klangwerke and released the album Made Out of Blood under its label , which was finally released in December 2007.

In August 2008, the split album Schildfront was recorded with Varg , which was released in September 2008 under the Twilight label. In July 2009 the album Eisengott was recorded and released in October of the same year by Heidenklangwerke.

On November 4th, 2018 the band announced on Facebook that Robert "Robse" Dahn, the front man of Equilibrium , will replace the previous singer Rico. Furthermore, founding member Sam left the band after 21 years, whereupon Bobby B. took over the second guitar and Janko Jentsch ( Riger ) joined the group as the new bass player. On December 30 of that year was the decline the first song released with a new cast.

style

Minas Morgul generally plays melodic metal with black and pagan metal influences. These can be heard in songs like Wie's uns Like or Mit den Wölfen zzugend , where predominantly melodic, epic guitar melodies are used. High screams are used, less often deep growls and sometimes a change to clear vocals follows. The lyrics are often socially critical, for example George W. Bush is compared with Joseph Goebbels , with the band titling the latter as "liar" and "seducer" in Day / Monoliths of Death . In the songs, which are characterized by pagan themes, the lyrics are often about partying and drinking alcohol.
