Mind Assault is a South African melodic death metal band from Somerset West , Western Cape , which was formed in late 2004.

history

The band was formed in October 2004. The founding members were: Jacques Fourie (vocals, ex- Deaf Division ); Francois Pretorius (electric guitar, ex-Deaf Division), Patrick Davidson (electric guitar) and Donovan Tose (ex- Fudge ). Since the band lacked the necessary drummer, a friend of the band, Stephan Lenhoff, helped out until the band found a suitable replacement in early 2007 in Andries Smit (ex- Decay of Angels ).

The band recorded and released the EP Social Engineering in 2005, and played at several major concerts and festivals.

At the beginning of 2006, the band played at the first festivals where not only bands of their genre were represented and ended their first national tour called Destructour '06 , which they held together with the South African band SacriFist . This enabled the band to increase its popularity. During the year the band continued to play concerts and recorded material for their first DVD.

In 2007 the DVD, F * k Voort En Suip Baie , was released, the first of its kind in South Africa. They ended the year with various appearances at festivals such as Metal4Africa , Empyrian Fest and Whiplash .

In February 2008 Mind Assault released their debut album Stigma at the Metal4Africa Summerfest . In the same year they were also represented as headliners at the Ramfest , which is one of the largest of its kind in their province. A tour outside of South Africa through Namibia also followed . The band also played with Carcass ( Great Britain ) in 2008 . Later that year they headlined again at Metal4Africa and Whiplash . The band also went on tour with SacriFist, which was called Destructour '08 . However, it had to be canceled due to poor financial circumstances.

In the years that followed, the band worked on new material and continued to play concerts. The EP Metal Rites was released in 2011.

style

The band's music contains both melodic and aggressive elements. It is guttural vocals used, English with Afrikaans is mixed. They are the first band to use this language permanently in Extreme Metal .

"This band has a very brutal side that reminds me a bit of old Sepultura crossed with Divine Heresy as well as a speedy technical side that brings Dragonforce to mind"

Translation: "There is a very brutal side to this band that reminds me of a mix of old works by Sepultura and Divine Heresy , as well as a fast, technical side that reminds me of Dragonforce ."

The band's lyrics focus on social grievances and frustration, but also on people from the metal scene who want to put themselves in a good light.
