content

In Mind the Gap , director Robert Schabus leads the audience across Europe and shows different problem areas of the free movement of people, goods and services. Schabus goes directly to the affected people on site, who feel left alone in their powerlessness and anger, and offers them the opportunity to express their thoughts freely. The feeling of having been left in the lurch by politics runs like a red thread through the conversations and so it becomes increasingly clear as the film continues that a democratic crisis is manifesting alongside the economic crisis, which is also due to the rise of populist parties comes to light in many European countries.

In addition to these directly affected persons, journalists, economists and political scientists also have their say, who in turn place what they have heard in an expanded context and supplement it with their analysis.

Reviews

“Not judging, but rather as an observer, Schabus paints a comprehensive picture. None of this is new, but it makes one thing clear: Democracy can quickly come into danger. "

- Upper Austrian news

“It's the dark side of globalization that director Robert Schabus focuses on, the social gap that is opening up between the elite and the working poor - a highly dangerous development. Political scientists like Ivan Krastev and journalists like Ulrike Herrmann use their expertise to provide context and an overview. An important contribution to a necessary debate. "

- Falter.at

Mind the Gap works as a food for thought in a decisive direction, as a kind of activist wake-up call to the general public. Schabus does not care about attempts to justify the big corporations and their political followers. [...] Mind the Gap looks and listens. "
