Minecraft Dungeons is an action role-playing game in the hack-and-Slay style, that on 26 May 2020 for the platforms Microsoft Windows , Nintendo switch , PlayStation 4 and Xbox One was released. It is based on the successful video game Minecraft . It can be played alone or online and locally with up to four players.

The player has to free the enslaved villagers from the ore illager and fight several bosses . He takes on the role of one of four characters.

Gameplay

Unlike the original Minecraft is the crafting waived and quarrying and building blocks, and not on the first-person view but the isometric perspective used. Instead, the focus is on fighting non-player characters and exploring randomly generated dungeons . Solving puzzles and overcoming traps as well as searching for loot should also play an important role. For solving quests or defeating opponents, the player receives experience points and items. Some items should also be able to be purchased with an in-game currency. The experience points can be used to improve spells and skills. There should be 20 to 30 spells and abilities available per category. It is controlled with a mouse, keyboard or gamepad.

Since there is no class system, weapons and armor can be used as desired. It can be played in single player or co-op mode with up to four players.

Additional content

Buyers of the Hero Edition will receive two additional skins, a cape, a companion chicken and access to the DLCs. After the release it was confirmed that two more DLCs will come and that the game will also be continuously expanded with new content. The first expansion called "Jungle Awakens" was released on June 30th. The second expansion called "Creeping Winter" will be released later in the year. The expansions bring new armor, weapons, artifacts and new creatures, such as B. Pandas, into play.

Development and publication

The game was created by Mojang Studios under Creative Director Mans Olsen with Unreal Engine 4 . It was presented at the Microsoft press conference at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2019 and announced for spring 2020 for Microsoft Windows and the current stationary consoles. A few weeks before E3, Minecraft celebrated its 10th birthday. At MineCon 2019 it was announced that the console version of Double Eleven was being developed.

Shacknews describes the game as a fun dungeon crawler that is especially fun with friends. The game is also described as a mixture of block graphics and the computer game Diablo .
