The Minecon is an annual convention for the computer game Minecraft , which of Mojang Studios is hosted. The first gathering in 2010 was known as MinecraftCon . The MineCon 2011 convention was held in Las Vegas and celebrated the opening of the game with Minecraft -related discussion boards and play areas. The most recent convention, held in Anaheim , had 12,000 attendees.

Events by year

2010

MinecraftCon 2010 was a gathering of over 30 people in Bellevue, Washington on August 31st. Markus Persson appeared at the meeting when several requests were made for a community meeting and asked the ward to choose an unspecified meeting place. Strictly speaking, this wasn't a convention, but some consider it the first Minecraft convention.

2011

5,000 people attended the first official MineCon convention, which was held on November 18, 2011 in Las Vegas . The convention focused on celebrating the release of the game and hosting the Minecraft -related discussion boards , and invited people to play the game with others during the convention. There were keynote speeches by members of the community, building contests, costume contests, and exhibits. One of the many events at MineCon was the "Nether Party," an event for at least 21 year olds and including deadmau5 . This event also marks the release of Minecraft 1.0 to the public, with the game officially withdrawn from beta.

2012

On August 2, 2012, Mojang announced that the 2012 MineCon convention would be held at Disneyland Paris on November 24th and 25th . The announcement was written on the social network platform Twitter , where the game maker Markus Persson posted a short trailer showing the new convention location. The video shows members of the Mojang team wearing Disney accessories and Persson saying to lead developer Jens Bergensten , “I think they're trying to tell us something”. Joystiqs JC Fletcher said the location is a step up from MineCon's first location in Las Vegas. The second annual convention was the first to be held outside the United States and available to European fans who may not have been able to attend the first. It was held as Minecraft grew in popularity when the Xbox 360 version of the game sold 3 million copies. 2012 was also the start of several unofficial in-game MineCons, most notably Virtual MineCon, which although it was an unofficial event, was attended by a Mojang team. Many in-game MINECONs intended to come back when the next MineCon started.

4,500 fans attended the 2012 convention. Mojang made several announcements at the 2012 convention. Details about the 1.5 “Redstone” update have been revealed, as has information about the game's modding API . The Redstone Update was scheduled for release in early March 2013 and included newly added features for the Redstone ore in the game. Minecraft 1.5 added funnels, dispensers, and more.

2013

In April 2013, Lydia Winters revealed that MineCon 2013 would be held in the United States. Jens Bergensten later said it would be on the east coast . On June 27, Mojang's official YouTube channel announced that MineCon 2013 would be held in Orlando, Florida . The website for the Orange County Convention Center listed MINECON as an upcoming event in November, attracting 7,500 visitors, but then the event disappeared from the website. Tickets were sold in three batches on July 31, August 2 and August 3, 2,500 tickets each. The first batch of 2,500 tickets sold out within three seconds, according to Mojang COO Vu Bui. The event took place on November 2nd and 3rd. Minecraft YouTubers like DanTDM , Thinknoodles and ThnxCya participated.

2014 (canceled)

On March 30, 2014, Lydia Winters revealed in a tweet that MineCon 2014 would be held in Europe. In any case, Vu Bui created a blog post on August 21, 2014, stating that there will be no MineCon 2014, but that instead the next MineCon will be in London in spring 2015. Now there's a tooltip in Minecraft: The Console Edition and Pocket Edition have a loading screen that says, "Nobody knows where MineCon 2014 was held."

2015

On February 2nd, 2015, Vu Bui announced that MineCon 2015 would be held in London , at the ExCeL London Exhibition and Conference Center on July 4th and 5th, 2015. Ticket prices were published on March 18th, 2015 and were £ 129 (around £ 144) Euro). During the opening ceremony on July 4, 2015, the Guinness World Records announced that MINECON had won the world record for the largest number of participants for a convention only for one game with 10,000 tickets sold.

2016

On March 7, 2016, Mojang announced in a blog post that MineCon 2016 would be held on September 24th and 25th, 2016 in Anaheim, California at the Anaheim Convention Center . Tickets to the event were $ 160 per person, and infants under the age of 3 were admitted for free. The Minecraft team got another prize when they sold 12,000 tickets which sold out in seconds. They announced new features during this time, such as the Minecraft novel, Minecraft: The Island and an update for the console versions of the game.

2017

On August 8, 2017, Mojang announced that MineCon will be a 90-minute livestream on November 18, 2017 at 5:00 PM GMT , called MineCon Earth. MineCon Earth is hosted by Will Arnett , a Canadian actor. After this announcement came the introduction of “Official Community Events”, which allow events such as Minefaire, Minevention and Multiplay's BlockFest and are considered “Official Minecraft Conventions”. During MineCon Earth, Jens "Jeb" Bergensten announced the next update, the 1.13 "The Update Aquatic" update. This update will be released in spring 2018. Vu Bui, Mojang COO, also announced the chosen winning mob "The Monster of the Night Skies".

2019

On May 17, 2019 it was announced that MineCon Live 2019 will take place on September 28, 2019 at 6:00 p.m. German time.

At 5:30 p.m. German time, the live stream started with a pre-show with four co-hosts.

The event was renamed from "MineCon Earth" to "MineCon Live" to avoid confusion with the new augmented reality game Minecraft Earth .

The show was streamed live on Mixer , Facebook , YouTube, Twitch and minecraft.net.

As in the previous year, viewers could vote by voting which biome should receive new features in the next update. The biomes were available: wasteland, swamp and mountains. In the vote, the wasteland received 14%, the swamp 40% and the mountains 46% of the 255,201 votes.

MineCon capes

At every MineCon, visitors got an exclusive in-game cape.

  • 2011 - red cape with a creeper face in the middle, voted with a vote
  • 2012 - dark blue cape with a gold pickaxe in the middle, which was spoiled in Curses "Swag Bag" video
  • 2013 - jade green cloak with a raised butt in the middle
  • 2015 - dark cyan cloak with a face from an iron golem
  • 2016 - purple-gray cloak with an Enderman face on it
