Minnesota Route 55 is a 362 km long state route in Minnesota that runs in a west-east direction.

The western end point is the state line with North Dakota near Tenney . In North Dakota, the road continues as North Dakota State Route 11 . The east end is in Hastings at the intersection with US Highway 61 .

The western portion of the highway that leads into central Minneapolis is known as the Olson Memorial Highway , named after Floyd B. Olson , a former Minnesota governor of Norwegian descent. Southeast of downtown, Route 55 is known as Hiawatha Avenue . A light rail system , the Hiawatha Line , runs parallel to the street for a large part of this section.

Mendota Bridge

In July 2005, the stretch of road that runs through downtown Minneapolis was returned to the local road authority. To fill the gap, the route was merged with Interstate 94 . In a westerly direction, Route 55 joins I-94, heading west just outside the city center, and exits it at the Olson Memorial Highway exit . To the east, Route 55 joins I-94 east from this point and follows it to the Hiawatha Avenue exit .

Route 55 crosses the Minnesota River over the Mendota Bridge , which at the time of its completion in 1926 was the longest reinforced concrete bridge in the world. It measures around 1256 m.
