The Minnesund jernbanebru ( German railway bridge Minnesund ) crosses the southern end of the Mjøsa lake near Minnesund in the Norwegian municipality of Eidsvoll in Fylke Viken . It serves the Dovrebane railway line between Oslo and Lillehammer and Trondheim . The Minnesund Bridge ( Minnesund bru ), a road bridge built in 1959 and a modern motorway bridge are just a few meters away .
First bridge (1880)
The single-track bridge was built in 1879 as part of the Hedemarksbane between Eidsvoll and Hamar , which is now part of the Dovrebane. The line was opened in 1880 and allowed a trip from Kristiania to Hamar.
The main opening of the bridge consisted of a semi-parabolic girder with a span of 62 m, which rested on high, brick pillars. This was followed by a number of trusses on both sides , which were supported by slim, steel pile yokes . The structure was and is a total of 362 m long.
At the time the bridge was built, its semi-parabolic beam was one of the first ever. The Culemborg Railway Bridge (1868) was the first bridge with a large semi-parabolic girder.
The bridge was designed as a pure railway bridge. Pedestrians continued to cross the Vorma , which forms the outflow of the lake, by ferry boat .
Second bridge (1913)
In 1913 the superstructure of the bridge was replaced by a truss arch with a suspended track, which now had a span of 82 m. As supports for the enlarged arch, new pillars were built up next to the previous ones, and the old pillars were then removed.
In 1925, a lane for road traffic was built on each side of the bridge. It remained as a combined railway and road traffic bridge until the neighboring new road bridge was opened in 1959. The added lanes were then dismantled again.
Future new bridge
A new, double-track railway bridge including the expansion of the line between Eidsvoll and Hamar is under discussion, which may be realized between 2018 and 2024.
