The Mingteke Pass or Mingteke Daban ( Chinese 明 鐵蓋 達坂 / 明 铁盖 达坂 , Pinyin Míngtiěgě Dábǎn ), also Mintaka Pass , is a mountain pass in the far east of the Hindu Kush .
It connects the Uyghur Autonomous Region of Xinjiang in the far west of the People's Republic of China and Kashmir in Pakistan . It is 4703 m high. On the Chinese side, it is in the Tajik Tashkorgan Autonomous Okrug in the Kashgar district . Before the opening of the Karakoram Highway over the Kunjirap Pass , the main connection was via Mingteke, as this area remained free of snow for a longer period of time. However, when the Mingteke also glaciated, the Kilik Pass was preferred by porters and pack animals.
The new Karakoram Highway leads further south and then east over the Khunjirap Pass, because because of its proximity to the Soviet Union , it was decided against Mingteke as a border crossing.
