Miodrag Stojković (born July 5, 1964 in Leskovac , Yugoslavia ) is a Serbian veterinarian and stem cell researcher .

Life

Stojković studied veterinary medicine at the University of Belgrade from 1984 to 1990 , after which he worked at the Ludwig Maximilians University (1993–1995). As a postdoc he was September 1995 for the in vitro production of cattle - embryos at the Department of Molecular Animal Breeding and Biotechnology in charge of the LMU Munich.

In 2001 Stojković was one of the founders of the European College for Animal Reproduction (ECAR) , at the same time he became a scientific advisor for Therapeutic Human Polyclonals , Tyscon, USA and Agrobiogen GmbH , Laretzhausen.

In 2002, Stojković completed his habilitation at the LMU Munich, and worked as a private lecturer at the chair for molecular animal breeding and biotechnology .

Miodrag Stojković got into the discussion in the context of the ethics debate when he went to Newcastle upon Tyne , Great Britain , in order to be able to conduct research on human embryonic stem cells. In 2006, he was the first European researcher to be allowed to clone human cells as part of the fight against type 1 diabetes mellitus .

His group was the first to succeed in isolating embryonic stem cells from arrested embryos.

Since January 2006 he has been Deputy Director of the Prince Felipe Research Center in Valencia, Spain.

In the television program Menschen bei Maischberger on June 6, 2006, Stojković postulated that embryonic stem cells would find clinical use in paraplegic people within the next three years.
