Miridius quadrivirgatus is a species of bug from the family of soft bugs (Miridae).
features
The bugs are 8.7 to 10.0 millimeters long. The large, long-legged soft bugs have a long antennae . They are characterized by their red and cream-colored stripes that run along the head, the pronotum and the scutellum . The red cuneus of the hemielytras is variable in color.
Occurrence and habitat
The species is distributed in the Mediterranean and North Africa as well as in all of Western Europe to the Netherlands and Belgium. To the east, it spreads across the Balkans and Asia Minor to the Black Sea region. In Germany, the species has only been recorded in the west of North Rhine-Westphalia via Rhineland-Palatinate to Baden, although in some areas it is only known from old finds.
Way of life
The bugs are probably polyphagous and live on various, predominantly tall, sweet grasses (Poaceae), such as Zwenken ( Brachypodium ), Arrhenaterum , Lolch ( Lolium ) and others, but they are also found on cereals such as wheat ( Triticum ), rye ( Secale ), Barley ( Hordeum ) and oats ( Avena ). The eggs overwinter. One generation develops each year, with the nymphs appearing from the beginning of May and the adult bugs from June to the end of August.
