Mirko van Stiphaut (born February 2, 1968 in Duisburg ) is a German guitarist and composer .

Mirko van Stiphaut started playing guitar at the age of thirteen. At the age of sixteen he undertook his first concert tours through Germany, France and Lithuania with the Renaissance music ensemble Studio für Alte Musik . At the same time he turned to the jazz guitar and took lessons from Frank Sichmann. After winning youth jazzt twice , he began studying jazz guitar in Arnhem in 1990 , which he successfully completed in 1995. At the same time he composed and took part in numerous bands.

In 1990 he met Daniel Basso, with whom he founded the duo Just the Two of Us , gave concerts and finally met Achim Hagemann . Together they developed the music comedy format Der Popolski Show , with which they have been touring Germany since 2003. In the show, van Stiphaut plays the fictional character "Mirek Popolski" and also has the function of musical director. The Popolski TV show was nominated for the Prix ​​Pantheon , the German TV Prize and the Adolf Grimme Prize and won the Eyes and Ears Award, a European award for TV promotion, and the Best of Seven Award, a European television award for the seven best European TV productions. The Popolski TV show has been running on the ARD network since April 2008 .

In 2010 Mirko van Stiphaut revived his old duo with Daniel Basso under the new name Basso van Stiphaut and is touring Europe with this duo, along with various other line- ups in which he acts as a sideman .
