The slight population growth in recent decades is mainly due to the immigration of Berber families from the Anti-Atlas Mountains. The more and more developing tourism with its diverse employment opportunities also plays a role.
economy
Field management is hardly possible in the predominantly sandy coastal region, but numerous flocks of sheep and goats still roam the area in spring; Fishing is hardly practiced any more. Numerous argan trees grow in the region , the seed flakes of which are surrounded by hard kernels and are processed into oil in cooperatives . Since the 1960s, bathing and surfing tourism have played an important role in the economic life of the small town.
history
Mirleft was a small fishing village until the middle of the 20th century. It was then discovered by hippies who gradually attracted other tourists as well.
Cityscape
The old houses made of rammed earth mixed with small stones have become rare and almost invariably have fallen into disrepair. The new houses were built from hollow blocks and concrete ; then they were plastered and mostly painted white.
