Miro Gavran (born 1961 or May 3, 1962 in Gornja Trnava ) is a Croatian writer and dramaturge .

Life

Gavran is one of the most prominent Croatian authors of his generation. After studying at the Academy for Theater, Film and Television in Zagreb , he worked from 1986 to 1992, first as a dramaturge and later as artistic director at the famous Teatar & TD . Miro Gavran has been writing full-time for ten years and has become the most translated contemporary Croatian playwright. He made his debut in 1983 with Kreontova Antigona . Since then he has presented more than 30 plays that have been performed on national and international stages. He celebrated one of his greatest successes in 1999 with the world premiere of his play Kraljevi i konjušari at the Eugene O'Neill Theater Center in Waterford (Connecticut) , USA. With several novels and books for children and young people, Miro Gavran, as a narrator, found a great response from both critics and readers. His novel Judita (2001) was nominated for the International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award 2003. Miro Gavran's work has been translated into 30 languages ​​and received the Central European Time International Literary Award for Best Central European Writer of the Year (1999). In 2003 he received the European Circle Award of the European Movement in Zagreb for his extraordinary contribution to the promotion of cultural, European values . With his wife, the actress Mladena Gavran, the author founded the GAVRAN Theater in Zagreb in autumn 2002 , where he also lives.

Awarded the Dr. Alois Mock Europe Prize to Miro Gavran by Michael Spindelegger (2017)

In 2016 he received the Prince Branimir Order with a collar for his work . In 2017 he was awarded the Alois Mock European Prize.
