Miron Chodakovsky
Mirosław Miron Chodakowski (born October 21, 1957 in Białystok , Poland ; † April 10, 2010 in Smolensk , Russia ) was Archbishop of the Polish Orthodox Church in Poland and Military Ordinary of the Polish Armed Forces .
Life
Miron Chodakowski entered the Orthodox seminary in Warsaw in 1972 . After finishing his theological training in 1976, he studied at the Orthodox monastery in Jabłeczna . He took his first vows on December 17, 1978. On December 25, 1978, he was ordained as a deacon. After completing his studies at the Christian Theological Academy (ChAT) , he was ordained a monk priest on February 15, 1979 .
From 1979 to 1984 he worked in the Onufrego Monastery in Jabłeczna and became its hegumen on June 25, 1984 . From 1984 to 1998 he was involved in founding and building the “Zwiastowanie Najświętszej Maryi Pannie” monastery in Supraśl . In 1990 he was with the work over 500 years of history of the Monastery of the Annunciation in Supraśl 1498-1998 ( 500 lecie Monasteru Zwiastowania NMP w Supraślu 1498-1998 roku ) for Dr. theol. PhD .
He had been a member of the Polish People's Army since 1980 and was appointed Brigadier General of the Army of Poland on August 15, 1998 . The Council of Bishops of the Polish Orthodox Church expanded its council to seven in April 1990 and accepted it with the rank of Archimandrite . On May 10, 1998, Miron was ordained bishop of the Polish Orthodox Church and appointed military bishop . On May 10, 2008 he was appointed archbishop.
On April 10, 2010, Chodakowski was part of a Polish delegation headed by President Lech Kaczyński , who was to travel to the memorial in Russia on the occasion of the seventieth anniversary of the Katyn massacre . However, in a plane crash of the delegation near the Smolensk-Nord military airfield , he was killed along with other high-ranking representatives of Poland.
Posthumously Chodakowski was the Commander's Cross of the 16 April 2010 Order of Polonia Restituta (Krzyź Komandorski Orderu Rebirth of Poland) awarded.
