Misia (singer)
MISIA ( Japanese ミ ー シ ャ , Mīsha , real: Misaki Itō ( 伊藤 美 咲 ), Itō Misaki ; born July 7, 1978 in Fukuoka ) is a Japanese R&B singer. She brought her first single Tsutsumi Komu Yō ni… in 1998 under BMG Japan . In 2002 she moved to Rhythmedia Tribe, a sub-label of Avex Trax . On May 1, 2007, she went back under contract with BMG Japan.
Life
prehistory
Misia's parents are both doctors and she is the youngest of three children. She discovered her special voice, which spans five octaves , during a private music lesson with her sister. In her school days she sang and played the trumpet in a wind band and, with the help of her sister, won smaller singing competitions in Fukuoka . Soon after, she started taking singing lessons in gospel and R&B, and gradually lost interest in another school career. She decided against studying at Seinan Gakuin University and instead focused more on her music career.
debut
She got a recording deal with Sony BMG Japan in May 1997 and took the stage name MISIA, a combination of her name Misaki and Asia. She made her debut with the single Tsutsumi Komu Yō ni… on February 21, 1998 and reached number 11 on the Oricon charts . Her second single Hi no Ataru Basho improved to position 9 and was also used as the theme song for the film hood . Her first album, titled Mother Father Brother Sister , was released on June 24, 1998 and peaked the charts after four weeks. In March 1999 she was named Best New Artist of the Year at the Japan Gold Disc Awards , and her debut album also won the award for Best Pop Album of the Year.
Career high point
In 2000, MISIA recorded the single I miss you ~ Toki wo Koete ~ with her then favorite band Dreams Come True , where she wrote the lyrics and Masato Nakamura, the band's lead singer, wrote the melody. Her single Kokoro Hitotsu was used as the theme song for the 2003 film Dragon Head . Her single Namae no Nai Sora wo Miagete , which was released on July 7, 2004, was used for the Dorama Tenka . In addition, her song Tobikata wo Wasureta Chiisana Tori became the theme song for the PlayStation 2 game Star Ocean: Till the End of Time . Their single SEA OF DREAMS was the official song for the 5th anniversary of the Japanese Disneyland in Tokyo . MISIA is one of the performers in Japan who, despite her success, has never sung live at a music show. In 2004 she was the only singer whose tour reached all five of Japan's major domes, including the Tokyo Dome .
New beginning
On May 1st, 2007 it was confirmed that MISIA is leaving its label avex trax and is returning to its former label BMG Japan, as its sales figures have been steadily declining. On July 4th their first single after the label change was released with the title Any Love . After their next single, Royal Chocolate Flush , was released in December 2007 , their eighth studio album, EIGHTH WORLD , was released in January 2008, surpassing the sales of the previous album.
2010
In August it will be announced that MISIA will be collaborating with famous Canadian producer David Foster on their latest single “Life in Harmony”. The song will also be featured on Foster's compilation album, which will be released on September 15th, alongside songs by Michael Jackson and Madonna.
