The Mittaghorn (also Mittagshorn , 3143 m above sea level ) is a peak in the Valais Alps above Saas-Fee . The summit is not very independent and forms the end point of the rocky ridge that runs northeast from Egginer . Seen from Saas-Fee and Saas-Grund , the Mittaghorn is the dominant mountain in the south, which also explains the name, as the sun stands over the mountain at noon when viewed from there. On the summit there is a large summit cross that can be clearly seen from the valley .
Routes
The easiest climb leads from the Plattjen mountain station (2571 m) on a good path south towards the Britanniahütte . About in the middle of the eastern flank of the Mittaghorn branches off to the right, in an easterly direction, that leads over grass, rubble and a few light rocks to the summit. This ascent route is marked throughout and takes 1½ to 2 hours.
An alternative ascent is the via ferrata established in 2004 over the northwest ridge . The starting point is the Morenia middle station of the Felskinnbahn (2572 m). The via ferrata, classified as medium difficulty, is partially exposed, especially in the upper part. The climb takes about 3 hours.
