Mittelbach was an independent municipality until 1969 and has been part of the Mittelbach-Hengstbach district of Zweibrücken since 1972 .
location
Mittelbach is located in the Westrich plateau and is located in the southwest of Zweibrücken, not far from the border with Saarland . The Bickenalb grazes the southeastern edge of the settlement. The Rechentaler Bach flows through the settlement area , the Langentalbach grazes the northeastern edge of the settlement; both flow into the Bickenalb a little later.
history
The first reliable mention of the place took place in 1301. Until 1792 the place belonged to Pfalz-Zweibrücken . From 1798 to 1814, when the Palatinate was part of the French Republic (until 1804) and then part of the Napoleonic Empire , Mittelbach was incorporated into the canton of Medelsheim . In 1815 the place had 241 inhabitants. Then the place changed to the Kingdom of Bavaria . Since the canton Medelsheim was dissolved in 1817, the place moved to the canton Zweibrücken . From 1818 to 1862 the place was part of the Landkommissariat Zweibrücken , which was then converted into a district office.
From 1938 the place was part of the district of Zweibrücken . After the Second World War , Mittelbach became part of the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate within the French occupation zone . In the course of the first Rhineland-Palatinate administrative reform, the place was merged on June 7, 1969 with the neighboring community of Hengstbach to form the new local community Mittelbach-Hengstbach . Three years later this was incorporated into the independent city of Zweibrücken, which has since formed a local district there.
politics
Mittelbach and Hengstbach form a district of the city of Zweibrücken. Politically, it is represented by a local council and a local councilor, see here for details .
